The First Win

The Beer Engines notched their first win of the season away to Hercules FC. The good guys opened the scoring early and continued to create chances. The Beer Engines were called for an incredible number of offsides that left more than a few players shaking their heads. After the interval the game really opened up for the visitors and they eventually scored their second. The home team pulled one back after bombing long balls into our defensive third. But the Beer Engines could not be denied and they put two more past the keeper. The 4-1 scoreline belies how many scoring opportunities the Beer Engines created. We may not have finished all of them, but the offensive production and the stingy defence certainly bodes well for the remainder of the season.

SCORING:

Dave Bergan 2-0 (assist Demian Lampland),
Hercules FC 2-1,
Nate Bowie 3-1 (assist Bob Schmidt),
Bob Schmidt 4-1 ( assist Chris Zewiske)

Campaign's First Point

The Beer Engines drew 0-0 with MacPherson at their home field. The hosts will be disappointed to have dropped points in their second match after hitting the woodwork twice. For the second week in a row the weather was played a significant role in the match. The hellacious rain continued well into the second half & clearly affected the play. The Beer Engines will hit the road for their first away game next week.

Season Opener

The Beer Engines opened their season last night in nearly horizontal, freezing rain. The slippery conditions and opening day rust made for a difficult night at Thresher Field. The Wolverines laid siege to the home side's goal for much of the first half, scoring twice. After the interval the Beer Engines conceded a third goal and were unlucky to not score themselves after coming close on several occasions. A 3-nothing loss is a disappointing start the campaign, but the team showed glimmers of the positive play that fans have come to know & love.
